A Little Introduction

Welcome to Beautiful Balance!

This blog is the brainchild of my daughters and I. We wanted to do something creative together that reflects our day to day life, and inspires hope and positivity for your day.

So as I reflect on our days, I observe that I often feel like my life is one great big juggling act. As I am sure you can also relate, I have so many hats to wear–Wife, Pastor’s wife, Parent, Homeschool Mom, Piano teacher, Singer, Gardener, and Small-business owner to name a few. And because of this, I spend a great deal of effort trying to strike just the right balance between all the myriad responsibilities and demands on me with grace, intelligence, wisdom, and, let’s be honest, sanity.

Tomatoes and Green Beans from our garden!

But what I have also realized is that I have been through long seasons when my circumstances are overwhelmingly very OUT of balance.

The truth is, the very day that I decided to start this blog, my husband Harry and my daughter Brisa were in a serious car accident. They hit black ice on the highway and spun off, running over a tree and crashing into a ditch going 50 miles an hour. They miraculously survived! Harry had only very minor injuries, but Brisa had a severe ankle break and needed stitches for a nasty cut on her chin. The time I normally spent on homeschooling and housekeeping was instantaneously absorbed by doctor’s appointments and around the clock care of a human who couldn’t walk or care for herself.  As I struggled to keep things together, the blog idea resurfaced, but I thought, “There is NO WAY I can do this. My life is so out of balance right now. Why would anyone want to listen to me?” And that’s when it hit me.

It’s not really about finding the perfect balance.

It’s about finding the beauty in the labor of living well.

And for me, the beauty is that I don’t have to walk this alone.

Jesus said, “Come to Me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”” Matthew 11:28-30

Each and every one of us is called to our own unique labors- they are as unique as we are.  And we will grow weary– we are human after all! But this is why I love what Jesus says. “Come to Me! I know that you labor and carry heavy burdens, and I want you to bring them to Me! Let me teach you. I happen to be a great teacher. I’m gentle and I’m patient and I want you to rely on Me to bear your burdens for you. This way your very soul can rest and you can be strengthened for your labors.”

How incredible is that! We are never alone. And as we learn to rely on the Holy Spirit for guidance, comfort, instruction, and healing, we are strengthened for our own individual assignments. And this is really the heart of Beautiful Balance. What we really want is for this blog to be a place where you find encouragement for your soul, where you receive the blessings of God’s Word, and where you see positive, helpful ideas for this labor of living well.

Kahmylia, Brisa and I have been planning and brainstorming ideas for content for months, and we are so excited to finally go live! We will be combining our talents to create a positive and encouraging space that we hope will be a true blessing and inspiration to you. Some themes we will be blogging about include: spiritual encouragement, cooking, gardening, frugal living and music. We look forward to sharing our lives with you!

Thank you so much for stopping by!
