Honey Butter Popcorn

Do you love popcorn as much as I do? I doubt it. I’m actually a little embarrassed to be posting this as a recipe, because it’s the easiest thing in the world to make–especially if you use pre-popped popcorn. Of course, I would never do such a thing because I love popcorn popped on the stovetop! Popping popcorn on a stovetop is not too difficult to accomplish, but it can burn fairly easily and you definitely want to avoid the dreaded burnt popcorn smell.

The Basic Idea

Melt honey butter and pour it over your popcorn, then lightly salt it for that super addictive sweet and salty combination.

Step One: Make your popcorn.

Now, there is definitely more than one way to make popcorn, but the key here is to use fairly naked, freshly popped popcorn so all the honey butter goodness has something to hang on to. Microwave popcorn poppers and air poppers are certainly suitable methods; use the method that works best for you! I prefer the stovetop method, so that is what I will be describing here.

Equipment Needed:

  • 8 Quart heavy-bottomed stock pot

Ingredients for popcorn:

  • 1/2 cup of popping corn
  • 3-4 tablespoons of oil (enough to coat the bottom of the pan and the corn kernels)
  • salt

Instructions:

  1. Heat 3-4 tablespoons of oil in a heavy bottomed stock pot on medium high heat. (Ensure you have coated the bottom of the pot.)
  2. Add 1/2 cup of popping corn and a pinch of salt to the oil.
  3. Slide the pot back and forth over the burner to help evenly coat the popping corn with oil and to distribute the salt.
  4. Cover the pot to keep the popcorn from flying out!
  5. Continue sliding the pot back and forth over the burner as the popcorn pops. This prevents the popcorn from burning.
  6. When the popping slows, remove the pot from the heat. With the lid still on, allow the popcorn to finish popping. Remove the lid and pour the popcorn into a large bowl.
  7. Set aside.

Step Two: Make your honey butter.

Ingredients for honey butter:

  • 3-4 tablespoons of melted butter
  • 2 tablespoons of honey

Instructions: Stir to combine melted butter and honey.

Step Three: Drizzle honey butter over freshly popped popcorn and lightly salt.

Enjoy! And try not to eat the whole bowl in one sitting!
